President's Award for Youth Empowerment 2005/6

I was blessed to be in a place and time where at that particular point everyone around me seemed to not appreciate that which they had. This inspired me to write “What is the point?” I shared this with a few friends of mine. Little did I know that it would be circulated to a much bigger audience and it was published in The Presidents Award for Youth Empowerment Horizons Magazine.

  What is the point?

By Doug Anderson. Copyright 2004

What is the point of having arms if you choose not to embrace?
What is the point of having hands if you choose not to reach out and touch?
What is the point of being able to laugh if you choose to be sad?
What is the point of being able to give when all you choose is to get?
What is the point of having a foundation if you choose not to build on it?
What is the point of having life if you choose not to experience it?
What is the point of having morals and standards if you choose to have no self worth?
What is the point of having faith if you choose not to choose?
What is the point?

What is the point of being able to smile if you choose not to be happy?
What is the point of having legs if you choose not to walk the walk
What is the point of having a mouth if you choose to remain silent when you should speak up?
What is the point of having sight if you choose not to have vision?
What is the point of having ears if you choose not to hear?
What is the point of having a heart if you choose not to care?
What is the point of having mobility if you choose to remain stationary?
What is the point of having belief if you choose to rely on luck?
What is the point?

Within you

"What lies behind and what lies ahead is nothing compared to what lies within.
It is what lies inside you that counts.
In your heart and in your head.
